Lentola VTOL Cargo addresses the logistics challenge of the “last mile,” significantly reduces delivery costs, and offers faster delivery times in areas where distances are long and road networks are sparse or in poor condition.
Lentola’s approach to package delivery involves dropping packages to customers by parachute. Using a parachute, almost any item of a suitable size and weight can be delivered safely, accurately, and intact.
Lightweight packages and newspapers are usually delivered to customers without a parachute. Newspapers can be dropped at multiple locations along a single flight route and, if necessary, protected with waterproof wrapping, making exposure to rain and moisture a non-issue. Delivery accuracy is improved using an algorithm that takes wind direction and speed into account.
See the example illustrating the efficiency of drone deliveries.
In a water-rich area, there are 19 delivery locations, two of which are on islands without road access. Delivering newspapers by car directly to each property would take approximately 150 minutes of driving time, plus around 30 minutes of travel by boat.
Using a delivery drone, the newspapers can be distributed in approximately one hour — three times faster and without the need for a driver.
Electric vehicles are rarely used for rural deliveries. However, if they were used, they would consume approximately 30 kWh of electricity -> 20 times more than the aircraft. Conventional combustion-engine vehicles require significantly more energy.
Lentola’s system and user interface are designed for fast-paced drone delivery operations, with ease of use as the primary objective.
The user interface enables easy, fast, and safe route planning that accommodates the needs of most drone delivery operations. Once a route has been plotted, the aircraft follows it autonomously using satellite navigation. Most operations are fully automated, but users can also verify all essential information at a glance, including terrain elevation changes, flight restriction zones, and no-fly zones.
Ultimately, we are at the mercy of the forces of nature. For this reason, things can go wrong despite thorough preparation. Since a delivery drone is large and could pose a danger in the event of an accident, it is advisable to establish the ground station at a safe distance from crowds as a precaution.
At its simplest, the ground station can consist of a small, electrified office container and an operating area for the aircraft at the far end of a parking lot. As a result, the initial costs of establishing a flight site remain relatively low.
